CRIMINAL LAW - the defendants were on trial for various charges under the Railways Act 2005 - the six defendants were climate activists and had obstructed a coal-carrying train by attaching themselves to the tracks in front of it, behind it, and climbing onto train cars containing the coal - the train was forced to stop over a railway crossing, blocking traffic and delaying train services for three hours - as a result of the protest the train had to be kept at the station overnight to be checked in case it was tampered with, and some coal had to be sent back to the mine for reprocessing out of concern it may have been contaminated
