SUMMARY

(Excerpt from decision) Maribyrnong Planning Scheme Amendment C163mari seeks to introduce permanent planning controls to protect significant trees on private land as identified in the Maribyrnong Significant Tree Register. The proposal responds to an action in the Maribyrnong Urban Forest Strategy 2018, and the tree nomination process and assessment is based on the Significant Tree Register (Nomination) Policy. The significant trees proposed for protection are considered to contribute to and improve overall quality of life for residents and visitors, with benefits relating to character, amenity, ecological diversity, habitat, air quality, carbon storage, urban cooling and stormwater management. The Amendment proposes to protect 77 individual and three pairs of trees across 260 properties, and make the following changes to the Maribyrnong Planning Scheme.
