[1] EnviroWaste propose to establish and operate a large modem, engineered landfill facility in the north Waikato. For this purpose they sought a suite of resource consents from both the Waikato District Council and the Waikato Regional Council.

[2] History has demonstrated that landfills need to be carefully designed, managed and operated otherwise they have the potential to impact adversely on the environment. Hence there was from the outset considerable opposition from the local community including tangata whenua.
