Legal letter to HESTA over investments in Santos and Woodside
COURT OR TRIBUNAL
DATE FILED (OR FIRST HEARING DATE)
Environmental Defenders Office has sent a legal letter to HESTA saying that its investments in Santos and Woodside may amount to a breach of their obligations to manage climate risk and that they may be liable for misleading and deceptive conduct. These breaches could arise from HESTA failing to adequately enquire about the companies' climate claims; voting against shareholder proposals to the companies to align with net zero by 2050; and continuing to invest in companies despite their expansion into oil/gas production being inconsistent with the Paris Agreement.
