SUMMARY

Flight Free Australia has lodged a complaint with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission for potentially misleading and deceptive conduct by Etihad Airways. Represented by the Environmental Defenders Office, Flight Free Australia has asked the competition watchdog to investigate advertisements shown during a soccer match in 2022 with the messages “Flying shouldn’t cost the earth” and “Net zero emissions by 2050” alongside the Etihad logo. They argue that “the ads implied that flying with Etihad does not have a significant environmental impact and that Etihad either intends or reasonably expects to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. However, Flight Free Australia says Etihad has no credible path to net zero.”
