SUMMARY

Traditional owners, represented by Equity Generation Lawyers, have sent human rights complaints to Australia’s largest superannuation funds in relation to their investments in Santos and its proposed Barossa and Narrabri gas projects. These complaints detail the human rights impacts of the Barossa/DLNG projects on the Tiwi and Larrakia people, and the Narrabri project on the Gomeroi/Gamilaraay people. The letters include requests from superannuation fund members pursuant to s 1017C of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) for information about the funds' conduct in relation to their human rights' obligations. The letters also request that the superannuation funds immediately leverage or increase their leverage on Santos to stop the development of these projects or divest, make a public statement about the human rights impacts of the projects, and engage in consultation with the Traditional Owners named in the complaint and their communities.
